Welcome to The Underground, the Sub-Camp for Junior Staff!

Thank-you for volunteering to become a member of staff for Poacher 2008. The camp simply could not run without the energy and enthusiasm that you all bring. The young campers along with the organizers really do appreciate your efforts, I know many of you are returning having either been a participant or as a member of staff previously. For those who are coming for the first time we intend to make the experience memorable and you will want to come again in the future.

After working hard all day the highlight for most Junior Staff is the evening entertainment which, in keeping with the theme of the Sub-Camp, will take place in The Tube. As proved popular in the past there will be fun and games with a themed disco, and a bar serving alcoholic and soft drinks.

The tube is the place to be for entertainment on Poacher ‘08.  It’s open to Junior staff over 14 and any campers over 18.  There will be a well stocked bar, disco and entertainment every night. Everyone is encouraged to join in with the theme and come in fancy dress, prizes every night! All staff are welcome for a week of fun!

Our Junior Staff motto is “Work hard, PLAY HARDER!”

So lets introduce The Underground Sub Camp Team……….

I am Caroline, one of your Sub-Camp leaders.
I will be here to see to your every need during your stay.  I have had the pleasure of running the Junior Staff bar with entertainment for 3 Poachers and then I ran the Junior Staff Sub-camp last Poacher, and have seen people and units grow and come back for more.  Last year I was involved in the World Scout Jamboree as a senior nurse on the Medical Team and had an amazing three weeks. I also provided medical cover at Splash, the water village at Eurojam.  The world Jamboree was a fantastic event and is going to take some beating but I think I can put this amazing experience back into Poacher and help make The Underground (Junior Staff sub-camp) the talk of the camp…

See you soon at Poacher

Hay all I am the notorious JJ……
For those that don’t know me already then WATCH OUT!!!..  I have the honour of working with Caroline this year.  What a team!!!  This is the first time for me as Junior Staff Joint Sub Camp Leader.  Nervous?  No way!!  I was at Eurojam as the Paddlesport Manager at Splash! and the World Scout Jamboree as an organising team member on the World Villages.  I have been on the Poacher Water Village for a few Poachers and managed the Paddlesport Team in 2004.  So I have lots of experience as a punter in the Junior Staffs evening entertainments :p  I am an Explorer Scout Leader for GYCEXP and the Network Adviser for GYCNET.  For the rest of it and what I do for a living you will have to come and ask me to find out……….

Hi, I’m Neil, and along with my team, I’m running the entertainments in ‘The Tube’.

I started Scouting in the 80’s and never quite grew up enough to leave! I’ve been coming to Poacher since 1992. I’ve always loved the unique atmosphere of the Poacher and made loads of new friends each time. At Poacher I can be usually be found at the infamous ‘yellow caravan’ which is my pride and joy (or a hideous eyesore according to my now ex neighbour!)

In real life I run a second hand shop in Stamford, selling furniture and antiques. I now spend my spare time working on my house and planning my wedding toGemma who I met through Venture Scouts (the wedding is just two weeks after Poacher 2008!)

Working with me on ‘The Tube’ entertainments team are:

Paul Scholes; Network Scout and mechanical engineer
Jemma Gardener; Network Scout and a nurse on cruise ships around the world!
Gemma Dolan; Network Scout and primary teacher
Gav Whurr (‘Worzel’); resident DJ for the week.
We all worked (including JJ) on the entertainments team for Poacher 2004 and Norjam 2006 and we will be on hand to entertain everyone in the ‘The Tube’ throughout the week. Each night has entertainment and a themed disco-check out the website for the different events! We all look forward to meeting you at Poacher ’08!
